Is My Child Kindergarten Ready?

Parents and teachers alike want students to be successful in school. One of the ways to assure that Kindergarteners keep their "ready to take on the world" energy and confidence when it comes to learning is to ensure they have the foundational tools needed. Below are the eight skills that the admissions committee will look for from prospective kindergarten students.
- Know and identify the alphabet.
- Count and identify numbers 1-10.
- Know basic colors and shapes.
- Pencil control to write their name, the ABCs, and numbers 1-10 recognizably.
- Can safely use kindergarten scissors.
- Ability to listen and follow verbal instructions. (Ex. Teacher asks the student to count blocks and write the corresponding number.)
- Able to use the bathroom independently.
- Able to tie or fasten their own shoes.
We don't expect that your child will be perfect at all of these, but it gives us a common foundation for our students to launch into the year. During the interview and assessment portion of the application process, your student will be asked to demonstrate some of the above skills. Recommendations may be made for things you and your child can work on between the interview and the start of school.
Start the application process by downloading and filling out the application available at the top of the page. If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact us by email, text, or phone call.
